Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is coming.

And summer means three things: heat, sweat and frizz. Yes, dripping foundation, smudged mascara and unmanageable hair. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining.  Summer is wonderful. Summer is awesome. But summer is humid.

However, this is not a guide on how to fight humidity; this is a guide on how to embrace it. So here are my go to products during summer.

Protect

When it comes to sun protection, SunBum is my absolute favourite. It’s lightweight, it absorbs quickly and it lasts through intense sweating. It leaves the skin soft, not sticky, and white cast free. The brand also has a range of other cool products that I want to get my hands on (shampoos, conditioners, after sun care, etc.)

For my face, I always use a sunscreen specially formulated for the face. My favourite at the moment is the Clinique face cream SPF 50 with SolarSmart UVA/UVB advanced protection. It protects my skin while hydrating it and provides a nice glow. Most importantly, it doesn’t clog my pores or break me out.

Moisturize

If I put makeup on, I usually go for a lightweight option. The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted moisturizer is my go to during summer months. I love applying this all over with my finger tips and set it with a little powder. Though it has a very sheer coverage, somehow it just seems to make everything better.

Bronze and Glow

On very warm days, or if I’m going to the beach, I’ll apply some sunscreen and just warm my face up with some bronzer, and I’m out the door. My favourite bronzer is the Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion Bronzer. I love how sheer and buildable this is. The tone is a perfect balance between warm and cool, and it’s waterproof! Is it really waterproof? I can’t really tell. Says it is though, and it does have a nice staying power.

Adding to the bronzer, there’s nothing like a good highlighter to enhance your golden-bronze goddess look. Under the sun at 33 degrees Celsius, I’m gonna look like a greasy mess no matter what I do, so might as well highlight the shit out of it. Also, having more of a tan, I can pull off golden and bronze highlighters without them looking muddy on my face.

Waves

I very rarely blow dry my hair in the summer. My hair has a natural wave to it when I let it air dry, which I actually like. To enhance the waves and tame the frizz, I’ll spray a little sea salt spray and apply a little styling cream on my lengths. My favourite styling cream is the Morrocanoil Hydrating Styling Cream (and the Alterna Haircare Caviar CC Cream for Hair 10-in-1 Complete Correction). I apply this on my dry hair and it absorbs right away, smooths everything out, and creates nice beachy waves.

*Extra: Face Mist

I love myself a good face mists during summer, especially coming back from the beach or after staying in the sun for a while. (Wear sun protection if you do!) The sun, the wind and the sea salt can make my skin feel tight, so I love refreshing it with some face mist. It sooths redness and gives back luminosity to it. The Lush Eau Roma Water is a great one, and I have my eyes on the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist. I’ll keep you updated on this one!

If you have any recommendations, please share! 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful summer,

Thank you so much for reading, xo
